Just read an interesting recipe for a larger bones' fly, the "Bonefish Junk" whose making requires eyes made of coloured epoxy in green. Now the shrimps on the West Coast of Australia, Exmouth, in this case, do not have necessarily Chartreuse Green eyes....Does anyone have any idea of the most fishing eye colour for the West Coast or do I have to tie them in every size and colour... and... Does it matter at all.Suggestions welcome. BTW it is a great fly, size #4-1/0, for larger bones such as Exmouth or Noumea, etc...Salut a tousRemy]]>

They work! When fishing with George a few weeks ago the bonnies would hunt them down even when they were not busting up. Of course, he only had one :)]]>

It can flutter a little if the body is too long for the hook, but so far I haven't had a problem with it coming apart when casting - that elastic is pretty damn tough and the only failure so far was when trying to retrieve if from a bonito's aesophagus with a pair of forceps. Although I ripped one side off with the forceps, the fly still caught fish even in their finicky mood.Haven't tried Superglue, although that's an option if you had some - as they are, they tend to flare a little between strips and if left to sink, they flutter from side to side a bit - the superglue may dampen that action]]>

nice one george, does it make a "fluttering" noise in the air and if so does it eventually come apart after casting a while? would a tiny drop of superglue between the clear material help?JD]]>

At the doubled end of the elastic, schamfer both top and bottom to help in tying it on and put a very small cut in the centre of the doubled bit so it slips over the eye of the hook]]>

Obtain some clear swimwear elastic from Spotlight, Lincraft or as in my very first one of these - from the hanging straps of one of my wife's blouses [but be very careful if you do] This stuff is very stretchy and almost translucent - if you want some more opacity to it, just stretch it right out until it doesn't give any more and it turns whiter - this batch is 6mm wide.]]>

I was chatting to a fellow flyfisherman the other day and he expressed growing frustration at the pickiness of the fish around at the moment, as they are feeding on the smallest of bait "almost translucent" he said "Wish I had a fly like that .... almost a small gummy minnow".Well, it just so happens that a couple of years ago I was out fishing with Ken and the kingies were being particularly fussy. I had one of these flies in my box, tied it on and hooked up fairly quickly. The other day when out with PeterD we had a similar situation with the bonito ... well I tied one on and proceeded to catch 4 bonito before Peter had a hook-up.They work ... although I normally tie them on a size 6 hook the hook below is a Mustad 3477 Size 9 [thanks Lionel]. Recipe to follow.]]>
