I have been wanting to get a decent rotary vice, I have seen so many different kinds and so many different prices. I would love to hear your advice.
vice: n. evil, grossly immoral habit of conduct. - Sound like fishing from a female perspective ![]() Stuart <'))))>< |

Get the best you can afford. I have 2 vices, one is a New Salmon vice and the other is the One Cam. Both are clamp models.
The One Cam has a true rotary head but is not very good for tying long flies such as streamers and baitfish profiles, it has little clearence between the jaws and the rotating cam.But is great for gotchas and baited breaths and small flies. The new salmon is good allowing to tie long profiles and all other flies. As for the rotary head you want to use it to turn epoxy? Maybe try a fixed head vice and get yourself a epoxy drier. There are many vices available surf the net go to the shops look around before buying if you have some mates who tie try their vices as well. Happiness is a tight loop

Hi Stewart
If you can handle the cost, then Dyna-Kings are easily the best vices for Saltwater tying bar none. Once the jaws are locked down there is no way that hook is going to move. You can also get midge jaws for them, which I strongly recommend for freshwater patterns. The bottom line is that they are expensive but once you have one it will last you for life. Even the most basis Dyna-kings are excellent. John

I'd have to recommend Dyna King Barracuda or Renzetti SW traveller, Presentation or Masters. I've been using a standard Dyna King for years of commercial tying and highly recommend them. My advice is to buy once, and ignore the plastic ones.

I'd have to agree stuart. I have a Dyna King and you could almost tie a knot in a 6/0 with it.
